Preschool
Arden Presbyterian Preschool/Kindergarten is a non-profit institution founded and supported by Arden Presbyterian Church. All funds earned are reinvested in the school.
What Is Our Purpose?
We believe God has given the primary responsibility for the education of children to their parents. He has also commanded the church to use its teaching gifts for their development. Therefore, the school should assist parents and not usurp them in carrying out these responsibilities.
We also believe Christian education should be committed to the development of the whole child; physically, intellectually, emotionally, volitionally, spiritually, socially, and creatively in ways appropriate to his/her age level.
The Christian teacher should see him/herself as a representative of God in the classroom, by demonstrating God's truth in his or her own life. He/she should seek to meet each child's individual needs in helping them to experience the joy of becoming the person that God desires for them to be.
What Classes Are Available?
Kindergarten: 8:30am - 12 noon
The child must be 5 years old by August 31st of school year.
Class limited to 20 children with 2 teachers.
Our 1/2 day program is an excellent alternative to an all day kindergarten, yet still provides a full morning of quality instruction both individually and in groups. We combine phonics, language experiences, integrated learning in reading and use "Math Their Way" for hands-on math skills. The children also have a chance to explore in the areas of art, blocks, computers, science, social studies, manipulatives, dramatic play, writing, and books. All facets of the child's development are covered in our structured, yet child-centered program.
Four Year Old Classes: 9:00am - 12 noon
The child must be 4 years old by August 31st of school year.
3 Day: Monday, Wednesday & Friday
5 Day: Monday - Friday
Class setup: 12 children/1 teacher, 18 children/2 teachers
Unit activities include numbers, letters, community, holidays, and special events. Within each unit opportunities abound in the areas of art, blocks, housekeeping, dramatic play, songs, finger plays, stories, and fine motor skills. These activities stimulate growth in all areas of development.
Three Year Old Classes: 9:00am - 12 noon
The child must be 3 years old by August 31st of school year.
2 Day: Tuesday & Thursday
Class setup: 10 children/1 teacher, 16 children/2 teachers
The children learn to function socially in this group. Language skills, teaching children how to express their emotions, sharing and cooperation are central to this age group. We try to give all children in this group a sense of their importance in God's eyes. Appropriate activities in art, dramatic play, storytelling, and other centers motivate the child to grow in these areas.
Two Year Old Classes: 9:00am - 12 noon
The child must be 3 years old by August 31st of school year.
2 Day: Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday
This class provides a loving environment for a child's rapid growth during the second year. The children are introduced to a structured, yet flexible, schedule. Many opportunities are given for them to play, look at and listen to stories, as well as interact socially with other children. Fingerplays, songs, and rhymes are also used throughout the day for fun and as a means to prepare the children for transitioning to other activities.
What Else Do We Offer?
All children two years old and older attend music, PE, and worship classes weekly. Two year olds participate within their classroom setting. In music class, the children learn Bible songs, fun songs, and rhythms. PE class focuses on large muscle development, and in worship, children hear stories from the Bible - both Old and New Testament. We also offer an optional computer skills class - Computer Pals. It is held twice monthly in an extended after-school session. The children attend a 40 minute computer skills class and have a 40 minute lunch time.
